We Shunt Everything!! - Box Van Diaries #2
Wow! So much work and effort! Nicely done!
Ruston Rust off
Ha, I see what you did there
Do you guysknow what the issue is with the blue spot fish van ?
Think it’s the axle box not sliding in the W irons properly but not has a serious look at it
in a scrap Yard for 18 years, somewhat it sounds like its lucky its trip abroad failed as it might have ended up abandoned there and possibly scrapped, the little kiddy running for the easter bunny as he wanted to get on the set was Quite funny XD that converted coach for the guard to sit in aswell looks really impressive and so neat and unique
A marvellous 5" gauge railway, fantastic. Merv.😃
Yes l had one of them wagon but sadly it got cut up by the railway it was on when it changed hands tank wagon are part of the railway history Keep up the good work
Surely that’s criminal damage if it belonged to you and they cut it up without your permission?
Hi Ollie, I use ProDec rollers and brushes, I think they are a good compromise between cost and quality. I've picked up a couple of ProDec bargains at Toolstation in the past. Is there any reason why you didn't use Bilthamber Hydrate 80?
Brilliant video Ollie
Thank you mate!
6 volunteers, 6 sanders, tea and biscuits you could get the top half of one side of the tank done in a day and all painted. Maybe try organising a viewers working party day in good advance notice? I really wish I was closer I'd love to help you plough on through all your projects.
Even half that amount I think we could get one top half done!! It’s a struggle to find people who have the spare time / I need to know they will do a thorough job like yourself! If you ever get a day free, pop down!
Fully understand you can only do a section at a time, it will look great, just keep chipping away at it, so it won’t rust any more at least. Keep us updated on the progress 👍
Yeh it’s just the reality of working outside all the time! Feedback on the video has been great so maybe I’ll do more videos on the tanker progression!
Roller. One not made in the Far East I would summise. High speed landfill.
🤣🤣 fair point! Hard to tell the difference between good and bad just by looking at them on the shelves though!
Hi Ollie I'm new to your channel and would like to know where is this lovely line and how far does your mainline run for. Keep up the great video. Geoff
Thanks for subscribing! Hope you enjoy the content! The line is the Colne Valley Railway, a mile long track with a station in the middle! 🙂
Next train you work look at the first wagon, its still in use now, for carding wheel defects 👍😊
Yeh I’m not sure why I didn’t think about defects, bit of a brain fart moment 🤣🤣
might sound stupid, couldnt you off used to pressure washer to get the rust bit of off after sanding ?? already that one Patch it looks so much better, and hopefully the rest of the tanker will end up looking the same soon :)
Yeh again I didn’t even think of that! Although at that time of the day the clouds were starting to appear so it may have taken a while to dry!
@@WardleRestorations ah good point, i was thinking the drying side would be an issue, either way its some impressive progress
@GWRailFan appreciate it mate, every little bit is a step further!
Why don’t you get one of them spray guns for applying the paint.
I did have a look but not many cheap ones of high quality. Might look at getting a Bosch one, do the primer by hand in bits then the spray all in one go.
Hi Ollie, good to see a bit of restoration on the wagon fleet, Yes I know you have been sidelined with the changes at the railway, in the long term more important! I think the numbers 1-4 could be to do with the both axle box - wheelsets for maintenance recording, I have noticed this on some main line stock. 👍
There’s always something going on at the railway! Was nice to get on with something different
Interesseting video :)
Plenty more like this on my channel if you enjoyed! :)
Puttin' on the Glitz, are we, lol? I recognise the music, Puttin' on the Ritz. It's also a song connected to Strictly Come Dancing. In any case, my 42nd birthday (Sat. 6th July) is only a few days away. I shall be riding the rails of Cambrian Heritage Railway status.
Funny you say that Kelly, an old brake van we have is on its way to Cambrian Heritage Railway very soon! Happy birthday for Saturday!
Thing to use is a needle gun like used to clear chalk out of boilers, works great as a paint and rust stripper and far quicker than a sander and needing less bovver than a blaster. Blasters can be made from old tall propane canisters, couple holes for fittings, big hole atop for media and hooked up to air, I am sure the welders there could sort a decent size and use soda so any media is washed away with the rain :) Primer, red oxide is still the king for old wagons, prob the reason the paint lasted so well was due to red oxide that is the real stuff as nowadays its a banned product due to the lead content hence its nickname "red lead" but the modern stuff is pretty solid for primerwork.
I’ve just ordered a blaster to try so we will see what happens! I do have a needle gun too so I will try that as well. For this particular pannel the easiest thing at the time seemed to be to just sand it back but the next section I’ll try a different method!
Pardon me for asking, but what was that tanker used for carrying? And after its restoration is completed, what will you use it for?
Don't need to pardon yourself! haha, its a class B tanker so it would have been used for carrying less toxic chemicals. Not entirely sure what I will use it for once completed but open to ideas! Hope you enjoyed :)
@@WardleRestorations I enjoyed it very much. Along side your videos or restoring the box van and Brake van too! Makes me wish I had my own brake van to restore.
You may do one day, who knows!
@@WardleRestorations indeed. If anything, I'd like to have a Toad Brakevan.
Nice to see the old Bridport banner on front of the DMU, a rotten shame they closed that line down here in Dorset :(
I'll have to do a proper video on the DMU one day
The reason why axle boxed may be numbered on a wagon is maintenance. If there is a defect in service with one of the wheels the crews need to note which one has the problem so maintenance personal can identify the one needing work
Glad I now know, thank you!
Might be worth considering a rust lazar to clean that thing
i'll have to save a few thousand to get a decent one...
Model railroading in1:1 scale.😂 Good on his part.
Less easy to transport than the smaller stuff but lots of fun all the same! haha
@@WardleRestorations Like l said good for you. Our local railroad museum closed because of the COVID bullshit. A small car is less expensive to restore than a big one. Where are you going to get the decals? HaHa! Maybe ExxonMobil might help you out with the cost of painting the car. Good will and all that. Good luck with your project. Best wishes from a fellow railfan in the USA.
Appreciate the kind words, hopefully you continue to enjoy the videos on the channel!
numbers marked for repairs etc, if wagon derailed the tapper would look for the number so that on his report he would be able to give accurate details of repairs which would be needed on said corner.
Tell you what I didn't even think of that! Glad that has answered the question as I couldn't think why...
Great update Ollie !! Good to see you getting the tank wagon out of the siding and the work done on the end panel highlights an amazing difference and hints at how much of a transformation there will be once you get fresh paint on it all !!
All being well, the wagon will sit where my loco is currently stored so I will have easy access to it. I much prefer doing small jobs on all the projects then 1 project at a time but might see how much of this i can get painted (weather permitting)
Hi Ollie. I used 6in rollers rather than the smaller ones to paint buses. caroline
Yeh I have a feeling the 4in ones are going to make it take a while to paint!
Like 👋👍 beatiuful video, greetings from Asturias 🚂
Thank you :)
question are any of the things that where for sail still there? if yes what is left.
Barrington is still for sale, as well as the horse box and sleeping car. Sleeping car is free but requires cranes to remove it from the isolated siding.
@@WardleRestorations is Barrington the steam engine ?
yes
@@WardleRestorations free as in total £3000 to move it and it costs nothing else?
yes
layout is great but camera is too jerky
ok dont watch
Will the blue star Locomotive 35010 be overholded and restourd
probably not
Im assuming you will be getting wagons or passenger cars when you get the money to do so
If you look at other videos on my channel you will see I already have wagons! 🙂
What a great vid. Its so interesting to see how these mammoth restorations are carried out and its great to see a 3-car heritage DMU saved for posterity.
A great update and now I know why there have been no brake van, box van and tanker updates ! I hope the re-org is going to plan and good luck with that!
I used to watch the guard riding the brake van on what must have been some of the last of the unfitted freights in the eighties. I used to think it was a great job, just enjoying the view and drinking tea but obviously there was a great deal more to the job than that. I would love to see a description of how a brake van was used and how the guard did his job and it would be great to hear some recollections from former brake van guards.
I have only just found the vid of the tank wagon restoration. These tankers are so iconic of British Railways and it will be great to see one getting the Wardle Restorations treatment along with the brake van and box van. Hats off to you for putting in so much effort to preserving these important wagons!! I am very much looking forward to seeing more updates.
What a lovely comment! Appreciate the kind words and glad you’re enjoying the videos 🙂
It was wonderful to work with you and Accurascale for the sound recording of the Ruston 88DS 😊
Love these videos updating on what’s been happening behind the scenes at the railway, very informative and of course great to see the progress of Ruston too - great job 👍
Glad you enjoyed! 🙂
A drain cleaning spiral might work to clean the sand tubes.
Good suggestion thank you!
I’ve ordered one 👍👍👍
The valves appear to be crane valves. They're available at wolsey plumbing or pipe centres normally.
Cheers for the info!
I do like your livestreams, don't get me wrong. I just want to see your model railway operating again. Even if you only show it in one video a week. I miss it so much. However, talk of real steamies and stinky diesels, there's a new real railway video on my channel I'm sure would be to your liking. It begins with LNER A4 Sir Nigel Gresley on the main line, at Chester. Second comes a Class 50 diesel on the Severn Valley Railway. Third is a Class 86 Electric Diesel at Crewe, back on the main line. Do watch it and let me know what you think of it.
Kelly, I can’t say when the lives will come back, sadly my life is so incredibly busy at the moment! Thank you for the continued support though!
What a great show around and discussion of how it operates and how you are restoring it!
Appreciate it Anthony!
Fantastic Video - well done 😊
Thank you!
Thanks for the update. Hope you are still working on the brake van. Have enjoyed the series but they seem to of stopped. Interested in the Blue pipe wagon you have bought. I work at Wolverton carriage works and can remember the wagons being around the works. The only time I saw it / them being used was when we filled it with redundant carriage fittings. Took them outside and burnt the lot. Sacrilege I know but they were in the way.
Yeh the brake van is still there! I’ve just had so many railway related projects that we’ve had to work on as a group that sadly my own stuff has very much taken a back seat, I hope once all our land issues are sorted I can get back to working on my own projects!
Great update video Ollie.
Thank you, much appreciated 💚
Oh the fun of unclogging sanders, used to do that on the old GE/West Anglia units. The valve that sits under the hopper can be the culprit in some cases, if the Rushton set up is similar
Yeh the valve might be an issue on some of them for sure
@@WardleRestorations from memory it's quite a narrow channel inside the valve once the sand is wet and clumps together it just blocks up. If we was unable to change the valves a few swift whacks with a lump hammer did the job to clear it temporarily
Cracking video guys.
Thanks for watching 🙂👍
Brilliant video
Glad you enjoyed it mate 👍
good to see whith up date good see you working on a the loco
Glad you enjoyed!
Glad to see Eric got my old sentinel working, very impressive
